Course content
The method of assessment varies between units, some require an exam or a task marked by the exam board whereas others are coursework based and assessed by your teachers. You will take 5 units across the two year programme.

If you want to study science but do not want to study the conventional subjects at A-level, this course provides an alternative allowing you to mix sciences and another subject together.
Most students welcome the types of assessment, with a mixture of exams, examined tasks and coursework. Students will increase their knowledge of science, but in addition they will develop skills in writing reports and presenting scientific information.
Students will need to manage their time and their work effectively during the year.
Students will complete a range of experiments and exercise practical skills throughout their two year course. They will also undertake research and develop both practical and theoretical scientific skills.
Students will also explore contemporary science issues and their impact on the world we live in. It will develop the students’ skills of analysis and interpretation across a broad range of scientific issues while exploring how they are reported in the media and in publications.
Assessments will consist of examinations in the first year and then coursework in the second year.
The qualification carries up to 56 UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to admission requirements for many relevant courses. The Applied Science AAQ will offer learners the opportunity to progress to some applied degree courses. Taken alongside other qualifications, it will prepare learners for progression to a wider range of degree programmes.

- 4, 5 in double Science
- 4 in Maths
Standard entry requirements
- At least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 including English Language and Maths (one Vocational or Technical qualification at Merit or above may be counted)
AND
- At least grade 4 (or Merit for Vocational or Technical qualifications) in any subject(s) that you have taken at GCSE and wish to continue studying at Level 3
AND
- Average GCSE (best 8) of at least 4 (38 on the old points table)
AND
- Grade 4 (or Merit), at least, in any subject previously studied
- Students of this AAQ subject will have to take two A-Level subjects alongside this qualification
