If you want to be part of an exciting, constantly changing industry that enables you to travel, meet new people and develop transferable skills, then travel and tourism is for you. The sector covers a wide range of roles including holiday representatives, airline work, conferencing and events.
So if you're an outgoing, friendly, people person and work well under pressure then we can help you get your career off to a flying start.
Why choose us?
Be part of our success
You will benefit from the expertise and contacts of our tutors who have worked in the travel and tourism industry including roles as cabin crew, holiday representatives, travel agents, tour operators, conference and event organisers.
We also encourage excellence through our points system which rewards outstanding performance. Every year we have a departmental ‘Oscar’ awards ceremony that recognises our best student performance with awards for Most Improved Student, Loudest Student and Most Likely to be a Millionaire!
Be more employable
Join Bedford College and you will benefit from the excellent links we have with local employers that regularly come in as guest speakers and assessors or to deliver full sessions. For example, staff from Monarch Airways have previously come into College to train students on our Level 3 course and Thomas Cook attended our recruitment and selection event where they interviewed students wanting to become children’s representatives at their overseas resorts. We've also had staff from Menzies Aviation come in and past students who have worked for Kuoni and Thomson.
Other companies we've worked with include Ryanair, easyJet, Flitwick Manor, Thomsons, Menzies, The Embankment Hotel, Henlow Grange, Thameslink and Woburn Safari Park. All of this helps you to develop the skills that will make you more employable and successful when applying for jobs.
Use fantastic facilities
Our specialist facilities and equipment include life jackets, oxygen masks, interactive globes, trolleys, dictaphones and flip cameras, check in computer software to simulate airport check in, PA systems and even a Wii to help develop your functional skills.
Enjoy your studies
We will expect you to work hard, but you will also have time to make new friends and enjoy the fun side of your course. Recent educational trips included a three day trip to Amsterdam and Bruges with city tours, a river cruise, and a traditional Dutch pancake dinner. We also went on a trip to Monarch headquarters in Luton for cabin crew training and completed a project encouraging tourism at the British sea side resort Southend which involved reviewing customer service and marketing. Other educational visits have included: Drayton Manor, Thorpe Park, Jordan's Mill, Wrest Park and The London Dungeon.
